Toomey ends debut Olympic journey

Tia-Clair Toomey's Rio Olympics are over after the Australian weightlifter was bundled out of the 58kg women's competition.

The 23-year-old World Crossfit Games silver medallist, who only took up the sport 18 months ago, finished 14th overall.

It was only the third time the Queenslander had lifted for the nation.

Now it's all up to Toomey's teammate, Cameroon-born Simplice Ribouem, who will make his Olympic debut on Saturday in the men's 94kg.
