Egyptian fencer delivers his country's first Paris medal, and maybe the best celebration of the Games with it
We're only in the opening days of Paris 2024, but we might have already seen the best celebration of the entire Olympic Games.
Fencer Mohamed El-Sayed won his bronze medal bout in the individual men's epée in overtime against Hungary's Tibor Andrasfi to give Egypt its first podium of the Games on Monday morning (AEST).
He immediately took off, sprinting around the piste at Grand Palais for a victory lap that finished in a Cristiano Ronaldo-esque jump.

Then, having been told to put his mask back on, El-Sayed ripped it off the moment he was officially named the winner by the referee, collapsing to ground and pumping his fists before finally shaking hands with his opponent.
Not only was the medal Egypt's first at Paris, but it was only the second it has ever won at the Olympics in individual fencing.
