French prankster wins Olympic comedy gold
The most popular Olympian for 2016 is 9000 kilometres away from Rio.
A video by French comedian Remi Gaillard, entitled Homemade Olympics, has racked up more than 76 million views since being posted on Facebook on day one of the Games.
In the short clip, captioned "Olympics: First gold medal for France", Gaillard delivers comedy gold by answering the burning question of how everyday people can make it to the coveted event.
The prankster attempts to high jump and long jump into dirt piles on a construction site, sprints next to the light rail, pole vaults over a large bush, throws a fishing rod as a javelin and hurdles over traffic calming devices.
His post has been flooded with comments and shared more than one million times.
"I can barely breathe from laughing," Sheila Sullivan said, urging an encore.
The comedian's follow-up video, Olympic Gymnastics, already has more than 54 million views and shows Gaillard using overhead handles on a bus as gymnastic rings and a public square for a floor routine.
His social media popularity has overshadowed the Instagram following of Team USA gymnast Simone Biles (2.1 million) and swimming legend Michael Phelps (2.5 million).
