British star Farah falls but still wins 10,000m

Not even a mid-race fall could stop British athletics star Mo Farah from defending his men’s 10,000m title in Rio.

Farah – the darling of the London 2012 Games – surged home over the final 100m to claim gold. But that moment seemed a long shot when Farah was left sprawled on the track midway through the race.

It appeared Farah was clipped by training partner Gaylen Rupp.

After Farah got back to his feet, he gave US runner Rupp a thumbs up to indicate all as well. He went on to prove that was the case as he sat back before unleashing his trademark finishing burst to claim gold.

In doing so he became the most successful British athlete in Olympic history.

Kenyan Paul  Kipngetich Tanui claimed silver, less than half a second behind Farah.
