‘Touch of Queensland’ included as part of Brisbane 2032 reveal
A touch of Queensland will be included in the emblems for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, with the crest unveiled over a six-day event.
To allow the world to piece together their “first impression” of the Games in five years’ time, the organising committee for the 2032 Games will unveil small parts of the emblem over a series of events, which will be unveiled on Nine, ending with a public event in Southbank on October 5.

The first will take place in Cairns on Tuesday followed by unveilings in Townsville, Rockhampton, the Sunshine Coast, the Gold Coast and finally Brisbane.
“For the first time in Games history, our emblems will be revealed piece by piece before a full reveal and community celebration in Brisbane,” Andrew Liveris said, organising committee president for the Games.
“Our Games will stretch right across Queensland, so what better way to celebrate and mark this significant milestone than by revealing pieces in some of the townships that will co-host in 2032.
“Without giving too much away, people can expect a range of elements incorporated as part of our emblems, with plenty of colour and a touch of cheekiness – a trait synonymous with Queensland the world over.
“We’re preparing to welcome the world in less than six years’ time, and our emblems will play a big part in how we promote our nature, warm and welcoming people, love of sport and cultural heritage, inviting millions to visit and billions to tune in come 2032.”
The 2000 Sydney Olympics are a synonymous event with every Australian’s life, most can tell you where they were and what events they attended as the world-class event descended on the city during the millennium.
Sydney’s emblem cleverly used a boomerang, sun and silhouette of smoke in the form of the Opera House to depict the figure of an athlete.
Alongside the crest reveal, Brisbane will now plan their handover ceremony to conclude the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
Last time out in Atlanta 1996, Australia was represented in a kitschy show, with stereotypes such as kangaroos riding on bikes on the stage.
“Handover ceremonies are traditionally the kiss of death … they’re just not winnable,” said David Atkins, who masterminded the Sydney 2000 ceremonies.

“Hopefully Brisbane can be the first city to win that handover ceremony when we get to LA.”
Alongside the individual crest, the Games vision ‘Believe. Belong. Become. Brisbane 2032’ will become synonymous with the event for years to come as Aussies count down the days until the country is back on the world stage.
“It always comes back to storytelling and what that story is and what the first impression is that people are going to take away from it both domestically and internationally,” Atkins continued.
“Brisbane and Queensland has a fantastic sort of story to tell and opportunity to place itself on the world stage.
“This should pique everyone’s interest and it should win the support of the domestic market. Everyone should get behind it because that’s really critical.”
