Aust women bow out of table tennis

Australia's hopes of Olympic success in table tennis rest on the shoulders of the men after the women's team was knocked out.

The Commonwealth Games bronze medal-winning team of Melissa Tapper, Jian Fang Lay and Sally Zhang went down 3-0 to Korea in their opening match in Rio on Friday.

Tapper said her side put up a valiant fight, and now her sights are set on the September Paralympics, where she's out to better her fourth place achieved at London in 2012.

Australian men's team of Chris Yan, Heming Hu and David Powell will face Hong Kong on Saturday.
