HOW DID HE END UP THERE?

Palmer went with a group of teammates to a nightclub. He continued drinking at a beach kiosk with a friend after the other swimmers returned to the athletes village at 4.30am. The friend is said to have left Palmer at 10.30am.

WHAT DOES HE SAY?

Palmer says he was approached by a man who threatened him with a gun and made him withdraw $1000 from an ATM.

WHAT DID THE OFFICIALS DO?

Officials did not notice Palmer was missing until the businessmen found him and contacted the Australian consulate which then alerted the head of security for the Australian Olympic team.

Palmer must stay in the village between 8pm and 8am and has been banned from the closing ceremony.
