Jonathan Thurston found himself in an unfortunate position when a Bulldogs kick ricocheted off his head to gift the visitors their second try of the knight.
The Kieran Foran grubber fell perfectly to the Dogs off Thurston's head before some quick hands from Hopoate and Montaya secured an eight-point lead in Townsville.
