NSW Blues star Olivia Kernick cut an angry figure during the first half of game two in the Women's State of Origin after her costly error handed the Maroons a try.

As the Maroons attacked the line inside the first six minutes, Maroons hooker Lauren Brown put a grubber in from dummy half.

Kernick looked like she may have grounded it in the in-goal, albeit with a fumble as Tamika Upton also battled for the ball.

The decision was sent to the Bunker by referee Belinda Sharpe with Upton not looking convinced.

Gerard Sutton in the Bunker ruled that at no point Kernick was trying to ground the ball, instead "she was trying to gain possession". Upton was subsequently awarded the try.

Kernick immediately turned to Sharpe and appeared to say "that's a try? are you kidding?"

Blues representative Millie Boyle put it down to the smarts of Brown.

"It's another clever kick from Lauren Brown, just the way in these conditions she skids the footy along the ground it makes it very hard to regather the footy ... it's a lot easier for the attacking player to dive over and apply pressure," she said on Nine.

Kernick would make up for the mistake later though when she scored NSW's second try, palming away and fooling Upton on her way to the line.
