Tonga advance on Cook haka in fiery scenes
The Tongans advancing on the Cook Island haka.
Tonga has advanced on the Cook Islands haka in fiery scenes before kick-off in the rugby league World Cup qualifier between the two nations in Sydney.
Footage from before the Test match at Campbelltown Stadium shows the Tongans advance from their position on the 40m line towards the Cook Islanders with several players ending up eyeball-to-eyeball as the haka finishes.
The incident was reminiscent the 2008 rugby league World Cup final where the Kangaroos advanced on the Kiwis during the haka and also a fiery exchange before last year’s Test between the Junior Kangaroos and their Kiwi counterparts.
In response, the Cook Islanders gave the Tongans space during the Sipa Tau.
Tonga went on to book a spot in the 2017 World Cup with a 28-8 victory in an entertaining clash.
