West Tigers winger Kevin Naiqama has set up an early contender for try of the NRL season with a freakish never-say-die play.

After just four minutes of the clash against the Canterbury Bulldogs, Tigers fullback James Tedesco put a grubber kick into the in-goal that looked to be far too heavy and destined to cross the dead-ball line.

Footage from ANZ Stadium shows the Tigers flyer tear after the kick and beat Bulldogs fullback Sam Perrett to the ball as it crosses the dead ball line.

Instead of giving up on the kick, Naiqama launches himself out of the field of play to complete an inch perfect no-look flick pass back to Tedesco.

The Tigers custodian managed to ground the ball just in the field of play to complete the miraculous play.

The freakish try assist was just the start of a stellar night for Naiqama, who went on to set up a second for Tedesco and score a try of his own as the Wests Tigers easily accounted for the Bulldogs, 38-14.
