Thurston reveals Pearce sledge

On-field sledges are common in almost every sport and at just about every level, but not many are as cutting as the one Queensland Maroons star Johnathan Thurston issued to NSW Blues half-back Mitchell Pearce in the final stages of Origin III last week.

Most of us have been in a situation where someone has put us down, jokingly or otherwise, and we have wished we had been quick-witted enough to say something back even more cutting.

That was clearly not a problem for Thurston, who was well prepared to return fire after Pearce called him "old".

The champion five-eighth gave the Triple M Sunday NRL program the low down to what was said during Wednesday's clash.

"Oh, I just let Pearcey know he should probably get a photo with Wally (Lewis)'s statue (outside Suncorp Stadium) because that's the closest he was going to get to holding the shield," Thurston said.

Ouch. It certainly hurts more than "I know you are but what am I".
