Hannant's stunning feat of endurance to help sick mum
Ben Hannant was always known as one of the game’s nice guys during his long NRL career.
And the former Queensland Origin forward has just completed a stunning feat of endurance to raise funds for a Gold Coast mum who is battling two brain tumours.
Hannant rode a stationary bike for 24 hours in an event he dubbed ‘Help Me Hannant.’ With local personalities and businesses, including radio station 90.9 Sea FM Gold Coast, Hannant has helped raise over $170,000 for the mother of two.
Hannant had just one toilet break on his day-long ride, and was joined by the likes of Mat Rogers, Ash Bradnam, Courtney Hancock, Liz Cantor, Amanda Abate, Eva Milic, Jarrod Wallace and Chloe Maxwell who spent periods of time riding alongside him.
The mum, Bec Lancaster-Scully, aged just 36, has had one of the brain cancers removed but the other is inoperable.
Doctors are hopeful of shrinking it, however.
Medicos are unsure of the level of care Bec will need in the future and have set up a GoFundMe page to help raise funds.
