Rugby league legend Andrew Johns has been left filthy with the Roosters' celebrations, or lack thereof, after dismantling the Cowboys 42-16 in Townsville on Thursday night.

The back-to-back premiers took 40 minutes to kick into gear, but after returning from the sheds for the second half it was nothing but class from Trent Robinson's men.

A Matt Ikuvalu five-try haul inspired the Chooks to the beatdown at Country Bank Stadium in what was a memorable night for the underdog who received a late call-up to fill in for Brett Morris who injured himself minutes before kick-off.

In all, it was a herculean effort from the tri-colours who were sporting a severely under-powered roster thanks to a huge injury list that included the likes of Jake Friend, Boyd Cordner and Victor Radley.

But speaking to superstar fullback James Tedesco following the match, Johns was left livid upon finding out the memorable victory would likely slide by without a proper toast.

"What happens on the plane when you get home? I mean, do you hydrate on the way home, if you know what I mean?" Johns asked Tedesco on Macca's Golden Point, Nine's NRL post-game show.

TEDESCO: "Ah, we've actually got another Thursday game, so after next Thursday we'll have a few."

JOHNS: "But that's seven days away?!"

TEDESCO: "Yeah, speak to Robbo (Trent Robinson).

JOHNS: "Okay, I will."

After the interview, Johns was eager to air his disgust over the Roosters' efforts with fans watching along at home.

"Yuck!" Johns said.

"You've got a private jet, you go up to Townsville and win by about 40-odd, you've got eight blokes out and you get on the plane and you can't get on the syrup?

"Mate, thank god I played when I did.

"Far out. Torture."

The Roosters face the Raiders next Thursday night at the SCG.
