Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland to personally grill ball tampering offenders

Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland is set to join the Australian touring party as the fallout from the ball tampering scandal continues in South Africa.

Iain Roy and Pat Howard have already arrived in Cape Town, with Roy to “immediately conduct his inquiries around the specifics of the ball tampering incident,” a Cricket Australia statement said.

“I am travelling to Johannesburg this evening and will arrive Tuesday morning local time to meet Iain to understand the findings of the investigation to that point, and to determine recommended outcomes,” Sutherland said.

“We know Australians want answers and we will keep you updated on our findings and next steps, as a matter of urgency,” he said.

With Sutherland’s arrival imminent, Cricket Australia is reportedly set to hand down their punishments for the offenders in the next few days.

Australian captain Steven Smith and Cameron Bancroft have both been formerly charged by the ICC, but both players are likely to see further penalties once Cricket Australia’s investigation is complete.
