Unlucky Melbourne Storm forward Tom Eisenhuth remains in hospital after receiving an accidental elbow to the throat in the final stages of the NRL clash with Brisbane at AAMI Park.

Eisenhuth was making his first appearance in Storm colours and playing in only his second NRL game after once turning out for Penrith back in 2012.

The 26-year-old only came onto field for the final five minutes of Melbourne's 22-12 win over the Broncos.

The club has issued a statement saying Eisenhuth, who joined the Storm midway through last season, was having breathing difficulties post-game.

"Tom is being assessed by medical professionals and will remain in hospital today," it said.

"A further update will be provided by the club when more information is available."
