Storm combo won't be repeated: Kimmorley

A combination like Melbourne's Cameron Smith, Cooper Cronk and Billy Slater won't be seen in the game again, NRL great Brett Kimmorley says.

The powerful trio steered the Storm to a 34-6 win over North Queensland in the NRL grand final on Sunday, ahead of Cronk leaving for Sydney and amid uncertainty about Slater's playing future.

Kimmorley, who won a premiership with the Storm as halfback in 1999, says the trio have been "wonderful to watch" and he doesn't think their kind will be repeated.

He says Smith is probably the greatest player he's seen and praised Cronk for his professionalism, "first-class kicking" and ability to manage a game plan.

The ex-State of Origin and Test star says Slater has revolutionised the role of a fullback, so they now need to be playmakers.

"Unfortunately, I suppose, the band has got to break up at some stage," Kimmorley told Fox Sports on Monday.

Kimmorley says the Storm under coach Craig Bellamy's leadership have been the benchmark for the competition, with most sides unable to stay with their pace.

"They are the best club football side I think I have ever seen," he said.
