NSW forced into social media backdown

NSW have been forced into an embarrassing social media backdown, deleting a tweet that took aim at Queensland's Josh McGuire in the face of their State of Origin III win.

After taking the dead rubber 18-14 at ANZ Stadium on Wednesday night, the NSW Blues tweeted a picture of McGuire from their official twitter account taking a pot shot at the Maroons front-rower.

The picture included the caption "losers have meeting, winners have parties".

It was accompanied by the message: "We said we'd fire up and we did. Now we think it's time for a meeting. #uptheblues".

However after being branded arrogant and accused of lacking humility and poor sportsmanship, it was quickly removed.

It was a reference to McGuire's now famous tweet celebrating the Maroons' series-sealing game two win in which he used those same words: "losers have meetings, winners have parties".

McGuire said he didn't feel like his tweet had painted a target on his back and refused to apologise for the original message.

"I didn't feel any pressure to be honest, it was nothing personal," McGuire said.

"I made a comment, it probably wasn't the best timing but I stand by what I said.

"We are enjoying our series win at the moment but I don't want to take anything away from NSW."
