Sharks fans don wetsuits to beat the wet

It was a night for mad dogs and Englishman or in the case of two Cronulla fans – frogmen.

With a cyclonic southerly and torrential rain hammering Sydney, Shark Park was a venue only for the keenest fan as Cronulla took on Souths for Monday night football.

But two ardent supporters found the best way to beat the big wet was to don wetsuits, goggles and snorkels and soak it up.

The pair, part of a posse of diehards calling themselves the Scuba Squad, was spotted splashing about in the concourse as the Sharks and Rabbitohs slugged it out in the wettest conditions seen for a NRL game in years.

The frogman look could have been handy for the players given the huge puddles on the field.

Every tackle created a splash and with the wind howling somewhere in the vicinity of 80kmh, conditions were a nightmare for fullbacks and wingers trying to field high balls.

But it was the 3978 fans who deserved the biggest pat on the back for showing their true colours.

And they were justly rewarded with an 18-10 victory.
