Rabbitohs star tees off at the NRL judiciary process

South Sydney Rabbitohs enforcer Sam Burgess has taken aim at the NRL judicial process, saying its inconsistencies in rulings were becoming too frequent and confusing to understand.

Speaking at Redfern Oval to a media press-pack, Burgess delivered an explosive interview. His first target was the NRL tribunal.

"Everyone says there needs to be an (overhaul) of the judiciary system. Who is making calls here?" Burgess asked.

"Is there a discussion before these calls go out there? I don't know what the process is."

"It's like a kangaroo court in there."

In comments perhaps more stinging for the rule-makers of the game, Burgess said they had folded to the weight of public opinion, rather than judging each case by the rules and regulations codified in the long book of NRL laws.

"We are very reactive," Burgess said.

"We're a multi-million dollar game yet we're ruling out players for big games over things that are (minor). Just fine the player."

"Does everyone else not feel that some of this stuff … everyone is trial by media, everything is social media."

Speaking before Jared Warea-Hargreaves' unsuccessful appeal at the judiciary earlier this evening, Burgess said the Roosters star shouldn't be rubbed out for a game.

"He is going to miss a game for that (a trip)? It's crazy," Burgess said.

"I know how he feels. There has to be some better protocols in place."

Ending, Burgess said that his own negative experiences with the tribunal would not alter the way he played the game, and that he wouldn't dial down his aggressive approach.

"I'm not going to change. I don't really have a response other than no. I will play the way I play and if that's not good enough for the rules, then I will live with it," Burgess said.

Burgess and his Rabbitohs tackle the Manly Sea Eagles at ANZ Stadium this Friday night when week two of the NRL finals gets underway.
