Sam Burgess stays on field after punching Klemmer

Powered by

England captain Sam Burgess was lucky to stay on the field after cutting David Klemmer's eye with a punch late in the Kangaroos' 36-18 win over the Four Nations hosts.

As the referee awarded a try to Kangaroos forward Matt Gillett in the 71st minute, a scuffle broke out between the two teams, with Klemmer pushing Burgess in the face.

The clearly frustrated England captain lashed out, landing a right punch just above the left eye of Klemmer.

The young Kangaroos firebrand wasn’t perturbed however, grinning broadly as the blood trickled from the cut above his eye.

Klemmer would have last laugh with the Kangaroos knocking England out of the tournament with a 36-18 win.
