England’s World Cup all but over
England's World Cup campaign is almost certainly over. They've beaten PNG, but only 34-12.
The 22 point win means they require Samoa to lose to Tonga by 47 points on Sunday, which isn't likely. Samoa are heavy favourites to win that match.
There’s certainly a strange vibe coming from the England players. Happy to have won, but knowing they didn’t do nearly enough to make it.
It will be the first time in the history of the Rugby League World Cup that England have missed the top-four.

Knowles stems English bleeding
Morgan Knowles has ended the Kumuls fightback, at least for now.
The better part of an hour after they last scored points, Knowles scored for England despite the best efforts of Zac Laybutt to hold him up.
Under 10 minutes to play now, and England lead 30-12.
Also, like a scene from that Hitchcock film, seagulls have descended on WIN Stadium. There are dozens of them!
Kumuls surging as England hopes fading
England have been far from polished in this second half, and the Kumuls are making them pay!
They've gone back-to-back and look a genuine chance to blow this match and the world cup right open!
England needed to win big in this match to give themselves the best chance of making it through to the semis, but it's starting to look less and less likely.
Dudley Dotoi scored the Kumul's first, and Gairo Voro the second.
They were down 22-0 after 20 minutes, and with Rhyse Martin nailing both conversions, they've dragged it back to 24-12!

England cruising
England are absolutely in control of this match, leading 22-nil with less than 10 minutes to play until half time.
At one point they were outrunning the clock, but that's come back somewhat.
AJ Brimson, Dom Young and Harry Smith are the men to have joined Matty Ashton on the scoresheet, and Savala is 3/4.
England score first in chase for cricket score
England will want to make a cricket score tonight, and they've started it in the best way possible by scoring a try in the opening seven minutes.
Matty Ashton got the choccies. He had some work to do, but managed to run the 15m or so and dive over in the corner.
Hugo Savala nailed the conversion to give England an early 6-0 lead.
We could be in for a cracking match tonight. Before that Ashton try, both teams had already crossed the line, but both were scrubbed through infringements.
England were denied after AJ Brimson knocked on, and then PNG were denied when Josh Feledy threw a forward pass.
Set to go in second match!
The anthems have been sung and the war dances performed, and we’re good to go in Wollongong where the Kumuls are taking on England.
Samoa book semis spot
Fetu Samoa is through to the Rugby League World Cup semi-finals after a 24-6 win over England.
Samoa dominated the match, although England didn't help their own cause by making several simple errors.
England half Georgia Roche had a shocking night. She gave away penalties, put two kicks into touch and then didn't find touch off a penalty at a time England were starting to gain some momentum.
Somehow, Freedom Crichton Ropati played out the game.
Samoan star in huge pain
Uh oh! Samoa's hat-trick scorer looks to be in all sorts of trouble. From first receiver, Freedom Crichton Ropati almost crawled into a tackle and was clearly in pain.
"That looked bad from the start," Andrew Moore said in commentary for Seven.
"You never like to see players go down without contact," Emma Verran added.
It looks like it might be an ankle injury. The Samoa physio strapped it up tightly and then did a test and then took her out the back of the line.
She's still yet to come off the field, but is clearly still in some discomfort.
England's earlier surge looks like it has stalled out, and Samoa can probably lock this one away and secure a spot in the semis if they can score again.
