EXCLUSIVE: Rugby league legends Andrew Johns and Brad Fittler name their best five wingers from the NRL era

Rugby League legends Andrew Johns and Brad Fittler have each named their top five wingers from the NRL era.

Both legends listed respective top fives that were rounded out fairly differently to each other, but one thing in common, Wendell Sailor was always at No.1.

Talking about the competitiveness the game's greatest wingers share, Johns couldn't help but express admiration for the heated rivalry between Adam MacDougall and Sailor.

Both players weren't afraid to intimidate their opponents with endless chatter with the two cult-heroes often engaging in a push and shove and constant sledging when they met on the field.

Sailor who was with the Broncos and MacDougall who was with the Knights, endured one of rugby league's greatest rivalries between each other during the late 90s and early 2000s.

However, off the field both wingers shared a mutual respect for one another, striking up a bond mutual during representative tours, with Matt Rogers copping the brunt of their "spite".

"His rivalry with Wendell Sailor used to just make us all smile," Johns told Wide World of Sports' Freddy and The Eighth.

"They'd be on the field into each other, sledging each other and they were really friendly off the field," Johns added.

"We went on a tour in 2000, they had their rivalry but when we got away, they were both the starting wingers.

"They both got their heads together and turned their spite on Mat Rogers. They formed this weird allegiance together.

"They'd be on the bus going to training, at training, at the gym and Dougs would be feeding him (Sailor) little things to say (to Rogers).

5. Timana Tahu

"He had some great years on the wing outside Matthew Gidley. That combination was absolutely beautiful.

"One of the best athletes I've played with."

4. Semi Radradra

"I thought he was one of the best wingers in the game.

"Unfortunately, he went to rugby union quite early, if he stayed in league he could've been the greatest winger ever."

3. Lote Tuqiri

"That era in Brisbane, they had those huge wingers and extra forwards.

"Lote, Wendell, you could have a great set, kick the ball down, have them pinged on their own line.

"They could get you on your halfway line."

2. Adam MacDougall

"When he was on and when he was fit, there was no more destructive winger."

1. Wendell Sailor

"He picks himself, he was just an extra forward on the field, great finisher and a great bloke to have around in representative camps."

5. Lote Tuqiri

"Incredible athlete, he was unbelievable.

"Pretty safe under the ball, he scored some incredible tries, but I thought he went to rugby union a bit too early."

4. Manu Vatuvei

"One of my favourite players, I don't think I've ever likes a player more than Manu Vatuvei."

"What he brought to the game, he brought some errors, but he'd get up, smile and walk back, deal with it his own way.

3. Brett Morris

"I think he's just Mister safety, I've never seen him not score, he's never missed an opportunity.

"He's one of those people who manages to take his character off the field, on to it and excel.

2. Blake Ferguson

"He's had a bumpy career, but what he does is incredible,"

"The amount of metres, what he brings out of trouble. When his head is on, he becomes the best."

1. Wendell Sailor

"I remember when Wendell played his first game against Penrith, I remember Willie Carne was out.

"Willie Carne was a nightmare. They said Wendell sailor was playing, he ran out and I said 'geez, where did he come from?'

"He'd come flying and just run straight over you."
