Roosters' Cordner could be out for a year

Sydney and NSW back-rower Boyd Cordner admits his foot injury could rule him out for up to a year.

Cordner is expected to miss the next four to six weeks after suffering ligament damage and a broken bone in his foot in the Blues' 6-4 State of Origin I loss to Queensland last week.

However he may have to undergo surgery, which could keep him on the NRL sidelines for six to 12 months.

"I'm seeing the surgeon and (if it requires) surgery it's going to take a bit longer, it's going to take six to 12 months. That's just depending on how it's healing and how it's going," Cordner told the Nine Network.

"So fingers crossed I don't need surgery."

Cordner spent the first seven weeks out with a torn pectoral muscle and could only watch on helplessly as the Roosters slumped to their worst ever start to a season.

The 23-year-old was the Blues' best in Origin I, scoring their only try, and is out of game two at Suncorp Stadium on June 22.

Cordner admitted that coming back from this injury had been a difficult mental battle.

"It just gets harder and harder," he said.

"Probably emotionally more than physically. I know what to do. I know how to get back. It's just emotionally you start to feel a bit empty."
