Roosters consider suing over Pearce video

The Sydney Roosters are reportedly considering legal action against the person who filmed the infamous Mitchell Pearce Australia Day video.

Fairfax Media reported on Friday that the club had sought legal advice about whether they could sue the person who filmed the video and sold it to media outlets via an agent.

The NSW Origin playmaker is an overseas rehabilitation clinic seeking help for alcohol issues and faces substantial punishment including a suspension, fine and being stripped of the club co-captaincy.

The club is investigating whether Pearce has legal recourse against the person who recorded the video which showed the 26-year-old simulate sex with a dog and allegedly urinate himself at a private house party.

Pearce's teammates, friends and the Rugby League Players' Association have criticised the person's motives after they sold it to various media outlets.

It was reported the club was investigating whether it had grounds to sue under breach of confidence, an action that is available to victims of malicious videos and photographs.

Pearce will miss next Sunday's season opener against South Sydney with his return clouded.
