Retiring Rooster Cooper Cronk rules out NRL coaching gig

He'll be without a job once the fulltime siren sounds on Sunday but retiring halfback Cooper Cronk has ruled out a move into the NRL coaching ranks.

Cronk will pull down the curtain on an illustrious 16-year career when he steers the Sydney Roosters for one final time in the decider against Canberra.

Already considered one of the greatest halfbacks in history, Cronk is also widely regarded as owning one of the sharpest minds in the league.

He had also earned rave reviews as an analyst for broadcaster Fox Sports this year, where wife Tara Rushton works as a soccer presenter.

However his intellect is unlikely to extend from the television box to coach's box.

"I love football. I love analysing the game. I love helping guys out. But I've seen up close and personal Craig Bellamy and Trent Robinson coaching," Cronk said.

"I love and respect them, but it's not a path I would be going down."

But while he shut the door on taking the reins of an NRL team, Cronk was more open to the idea of passing on his knowledge as a playmaking guru.

He has previously been linked to a consulting job at former club Melbourne, while the Roosters are expecting him to remain in some capacity.

The former Kangaroos and Queensland State of Origin No.7 has been pivotal in the emergence of halves partner Luke Keary as one of the stars of the game.

His knowledge could be crucial for incoming halfback Kyle Flanagan.

"As a senior guy, naturally you have to do that. It's your responsibility to pass on the knowledge," Cronk said.

"Hopefully the guys I've worked with here and at Storm have taken some lessons and gone on to bigger and better things."

Pressed on whether it's a role he desires, Cronk said: "Ask me after the grand final because I'll be officially unemployed and looking for a job."
