Michael Maguire dismisses 'garbage' Melbourne Storm advantage claims as grand final turnaround debate lingers

A seven-day turnaround leading into the grand final is not worrying Broncos coach Michael Maguire, even if it means his side's looming rivals have extra time to prepare.

The Broncos produced a remarkable comeback effort over the Panthers on Sunday to book their ticket to battle the Melbourne Storm for the premiership title.

Brisbane's victory did not come with ease as they managed to claw back from 14-0 after 69 minutes to claim a two-point win over the four-time premiership winners.

Several teams have had the advantage of additional preparation in the 2025 finals draw, with the Storm earning a nine-day turnaround for the grand final.

With the Broncos playing 48 hours after the Storm qualified, it means they will receive a seven-day turnaround to prepare for the grand final.

Such difference leading into a major game has left league greats torn, with Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy admitting the schedule does give his team "an advantage."

But Maguire feels there is no real advantage given to the Storm.

"I reckon that is a talking point that you guys will dance around," he said on Sunday.

"It is a load of garbage. Players play on a Wednesday [during State of Origin] and then they play on a Friday in our competition.

"We have seven days to get ready - perfect."

Maguire went on to reiterate how proud he was of his team's efforts this season.

But even if the playing group gave it their all, Maguire insists his team still has more to give ahead of the grand final.

"The boys have been building this from day one since I've been here," he continued.

"I just want to credit the players to stay solid to the path that we've been on.

"I always believed that this was an opportunity that we could create, so I'm just wrapped for the players.

"The way I've seen them train over the year and then knowing that that's inside them, that they can come home like that, and they've shown that.

"We know that there's one to go. It's important now that we obviously recognise what they've done to this moment, but it's using that now at the big game."
