Paul Green set to be named next Queensland Maroons coach
Former North Queensland Cowboys coach Paul Green will be formally announced as the new coach of the Queensland Maroons tomorrow.
Green, who won a premiership with the Cowboys in 2015, will take over from Wayne Bennett who led the Maroons last November to a shock 2-1 series win over New South Wales.
Green will be appointed by Queensland Rugby League on a one-year deal, with an option in his favour for 2022 according to the Courier Mail.
The premiership-winning coach had been without a job after he was shown the door by the Cowboys last June. The Cowboys, who haven't featured in finals footy since 2017, were 12th on the NRL ladder with three wins and seven losses at the time Green left the club.
From 167 NRL games with the Cowboys between 2014-2020, Green finished with a 52.1% win percentage (87 wins, 80 losses).

Despite reports former Maroons fullback Billy Slater was considered a frontrunner for the job, the NRL great reportedly wasn't interviewed for the role.
It's understood a quartet, which included Bennett, Mal Meninga, Craig Bellamy and Cameron Smith, had all privately pushed Slater's case for the role to QRL president Bruce Hatcher.
