NSW achieve State of Origin history

NSW have won a State of Origin series for the first time since 2005 amidst emotional scenes at ANZ Stadium after a hard-fought 6-4 victory in a niggly second match.

The Blues had to wait until the 72nd minute to hit the front through a Trent Hodkinson converted try after two Johnathan Thurston penalty goals had given Queensland the lead.

They then held on to end Queensland's historic eight-year winning streak in the interstate series with Jarryd Hayne taking the ball over the sideline and launching it into the crowd on fulltime.

Both Josh Reynolds and Thurston were placed on report for alleged headbutts in the 79th minute.

"We've just been through so much over the years," a tearful Hayne said after the match.

An emotional NSW coach Laurie Daley, who became just the second man to win a series with NSW as a player and a coach, paid tribute the crowd at ANZ Stadium.

"My heart is racing, the crowd got behind us and they got us home," he said after the match.
