'We've got a job to do': Maroons skipper Ali Brigginshaw's blunt call for senior players after game one defeat

Queensland may not be over their first game loss to the Blues, but co-captain Ali Brigginshaw is confident her team can turn the series back in their favour on Thursday.

The Maroons were unable to restrict an electric NSW Blues outfit in the series opener as Tahnee Norris' team fell to a 32-12 defeat at Suncorp Stadium.

Held pointless in the final 35 minutes, Norris elected to make just one change to her squad, with Destiny Brill dropped to the reserves in favour of Chelsea Lenarduzzi.

Lenarduzzi's inclusion is set to "bolster the size in the middle" for the Maroons, according to Norris, having featured six times in the Origin arena since 2017.

Despite adding another layer of experience to an already stacked Queensland squad, Brigginshaw admitted that the squad's senior players need to improve.

"We know we didn't perform, especially the senior girls," Brigginshaw said.

"It was on us to make sure we tidied that up and we do have experience, so it's not OK to perform like that in a Queensland jersey.

"We took that to heart and I don't think we've actually gotten over that loss.

"I think we'll use that fire going into Thursday. There's a lot of learnings and there's lots of things that we an fix from game one, so its not panic stations, it's not changing the team or doing any of that; it's just about working on what we can do.

"I feel like we're back there again, like last year, and it's just about us."

Queensland are not unfamiliar with entering the second game behind, having produced an impressive comeback to steal the Origin shield last season.

Still, with 11 errors and five penalties conceded in game one, Brigginshaw is focused on ensuring that she and her teammates lift their efforts to better represent their state.

"This week has been focusing on what we can do better," Brigginshaw continued.

"It's on us, it's on every individual. We need to do what we can do well and that's something that's been a big talking point.

"It's effort-based. It's not any fancy plays, it's not changing our game plan. It's just putting in more effort and being prepared for what we're going to face.

"(Our) debutants aren't debutants anymore, they've got a game under their belt - and I thought they all played extremely well.

"They're more experienced and we've got a job to do."
