Young stars' hat-tricks helps Australia to 'comprehensive' Prime Minister's XIII win over Papua New Guinea

Australia has kept a clean sheet against Papua New Guinea, winning their Prime Minister's XIII clash 50-0 at Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby on Sunday afternoon.

Despite the already hot conditions, the visitors brought the heat, piling on 10 unanswered tries that quickly saw the scoreline become lopsided.

Phoenix-Raine Hippi and Caitlin Turnbull both starred in the green a gold, scoring a hat-trick each.

"A comprehensive performance from those in green and gold, some young stars putting on a show," Brenton Speed said in commentary for Nine.

PNG started strongly, delivering good contact in defence and finding holes in Australia's line, before the scoreboard got away from the team.

She may only have seven NRLW games to her name, but Titans rookie Hippi was not going to let her inexperience rattle her as she crossed for the opening try.

Halfback Kasey Reh sent a slick cut-out pass into the 19-year-old, and Hippi's fancy footwork stumped Papua New Guinea's edge defence, creating a gap for her to crash over.

Just minutes later, Hippi left all watching on in awe as she grounded the ball in the corner for her second, while being dragged into touch by PNG fullback Fleur Ginn.

A Bunker review was initially required to determine if Hippi's foot stayed in the field of play when grounding the ball, as the touch judge ruled she'd gone out.

But a replay of the incident confirmed her boot was still in the air when the ball was grounded.

"She is a genuine star of the future," Ruan Sims said of Hippi in commentary for Nine.

Fullback Turnbull added another try for the Aussies after receiving a pass from Kirra Dibb, who copped a heavy hit for the effort.

Australia attacked again just before half-time, with momentum carrying prop Makenzie Weale over the line for a try.

At the break, Australia led 20-0.

The home side picked up where they left off in the second half, with Dibb throwing a long pass to find Turnbull, who scored on the left edge.

Quincy Dodd ducked over with an easy try from close range using a show-and-go move before Turnbull added her third.

Hippi delivered a bone-rattling tackle in defence before moments later, shifting gears to break the line and set up Abbi Church for a try.

She also added her third try before Andie Robinson went over to see Australia notch 50 points — the same margin as last year.

Prop Sophie Holyman's match ended prematurely with a quad injury.
