Pressure mounts on Ange Postecoglou at Nottingham Forest as potential replacement idenfitied

A troubling losing streak to open his tenure at Nottingham Forest has pressure mounting on Ange Postecoglou, with his potential replacement already identified.

It has been a nightmare start for the Australian manager's return to the Premier League, having lost his opening seven matches in charge at Forest.

Postecoglou's men suffered a 2-0 defeat in Newcastle last week - a game which many feared would be a pivotal clash to push his case to remain in the top job.

Following the final whistle in that match, chants of "you're getting sacked in the morning" echoed around the stadium from Forest's supporter base.

Manchester United great Wayne Rooney, who is no stranger to the criticism that Postecoglou is facing at the moment, said it would be "absolutely wrong" if Forest were to part ways with the Australian so soon.

He also noted that the decision to part ways with Nuno Espirito Santo was "strange", given he led the club to finish seventh in the league last season.

A fallout with club owner Evangelos Marinakis ultimately decided the Portuguese manager's fate, with the former Tottenham manager swiftly appointed.

However, Marinakis is wasting no time in finding the right fit to replace Postecoglou should he feel the club needs to be taken in a different direction.

UK media reports Sean Dyche will be the man to take over the top job at Forest in the event a second manager is sacked from the club this season.

The 54-year-old has yet to step back into a management role since leaving Everton in January.

He was previously linked to take on the vacant Rangers job, but BBC Sport reports he is unlikely to pursue that opportunity.

Dyche has history at the City Ground, living close to Nottingham and also started his own career as a youth player at the club.

Forest fan-favourites Ian Woan and Steve Stone have also been long-term members of Englishman's coaching staff during his time at Everton and Burnley.

Dyche was not the only contender named on the radar of Marinakis, with former Forest manager Steve Cooper and Fulham's Marco Silva also touted.

Despite speculation around his potential termination, Postecoglou is expected to be in the dugout when Forest host Chelsea on Saturday, October 18.
