NRLW finals RECAP: Raiders gun’s last-ditch effort seals victory in low-scoring clash

Canberra prove too good for the Tigers in a low-scoring 6-0 victory.

Tomorrow, all eyes will be on the Broncos when they host the Knights.

McGregor searches for an all-or-nothing grubber kick from inside her own half, but it’s cleaned up by the Raiders.

Turnbull looks for the same play, grubbering for herself with 10 seconds to go, but Zahara Temara cleans it up and ices it for Canberra.

It marks the lowest-scoring NRLW finals game in history.

Apps comes up with a huge one-on-one strip, but the Tigers waste their chance after an error in good-ball territory.

To make matters worse, they gift the Raiders a penalty for a dangerous tackle.

Canberra march up the field and trap the Tigers inside their own 10 metres.

Only three minutes left for the hosts to go and the Tigers need to find a try.

“It’s been a cracking physical battle ... but now, the clock is the enemy for the Tigers,” Phil Gould said on Nine.

McGregor puts up a spiralling bomb for Wiki, but the young Raiders winger is up to the task and takes the ball cleanly.

She’s wrapped up by two Tigers defenders and Bourke rips the ball out.

For some reason, the Tigers send it upstairs for a captain’s challenge and it’s a quick one, because it was a clear strip from Bourke.

“That was a poor challenge,” Phil Gould said on Nine.

Frustrations are starting to boil over in the final 20 minutes.

Raiders and Tigers players come together for a bit of a melee, with plenty of words exchanged before Belinda Sharpe separates the two sides.

A cross-field kick for Lily Rogan goes over the sideline, with replays showing the Tigers winger could have taken the catch and possibly scored.

Another scuffle breaks out as the finals-level intensity ramps up.

“There’s a bit of spice in this one,” Mat Thompson said on Nine.

Zahara Temara makes a break and is dragged down, losing the ball in the ruck.

On-field referee Belinda Sharpe blows a penalty against the Tigers, and there was a brief nervous moment where a sin bin felt like a possibility.

Sharpe opts against it, but the penalty allows the Raiders to take a gift two points and go up 6-0 in this sudden-death semi final.

“She just loses that, it’s not a ruck infringement,” Phil Gould said on Nine.

Raiders make a break and surge into attacking territory, but Law gets tangled up and loses the ball, bringing their momentum to a halt.

“A little bit of a let-off for the Tigers there,” Phil Gould said on Nine.

Horne is forced from the field for a HIA and will be off for at least 15 minutes.

She dropped a few four-letter words as the was taken to the sidelines, too.

The second half is underway and the Tigers are fired up after an early error from the visitors coming out of their own end.

Wiki loses the ball in the ruck and despite a potential strip, the referee says it’s a knock-on and the Tigers go on the attack.

Apps pops an offload to Bourke, but she’s tackled over the sideline.

The visitors lead 4-0 and in all honesty, it could have been a lot more if not for some resilient Tigers defence on their own goal line.

Lutu pulls off a massive hit on Kemp that gets the crowd on their feet.

“Ohhh, Lutu with a piledriver,” Mat Thompson exclaimed on Nine.

Raiders still lead 4-0 but that big shot could swing the momentum.
