NRL footy tips Round 17: Andrew Johns and all of Nine's stars give their winners

Rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns has put the blow torch on the under-pressure Sharks, describing their horror Round 16 loss to the Broncos "soft" and claiming it's been left to their youngest player to lift them.

Highly paid playmakers Shaun Johnson and Matt Moylan have been on the end of some harsh criticism over the last week and, while Moylan will not play against the Storm on Saturday due to injury, Johnson looks set to retain his place in the side.

Speaking early in the week, Johns told Wide World of Sports' Immortal Behaviour that Johnson was "playing in a dinner suit" and needed to find some grit to avoid the axe.

"We all know I'm one of his biggest fans but I thought he's been poor the last two weeks," John said.

Given his top-end talent the Sharks brought Johnson to the club with high hopes he would help to deliver a second premiership in four years but he has rarely given a performance to match his price tag since the club switch.

Having copped plenty of personal criticism this week Johnson will be motivated to turn his form around with a big game against the ladder-leading Storm in Cameron Smith's 400th match but that wasn't enough to convince Johns to tip them to spoil the party.

While Cronulla have had a poor fortnight, teenage gun Bronson Xerri has continued to impress, with Johns making a bold call about the 18-year-old's representative claims.

"Some shining lights Bronson Xerri, every time he gets the ball he looks dangerous, won't be long and he'll be playing rep footy, maybe next year or the year after," Johns said.

"But there's some worrying signs for the Sharks because normally at home they are just as gritty and as tough as you get. Against the Broncos they were out and out soft, no other way to put it, they were soft."
