Terrell May blasts ‘fake’ rumours, claims he’s ‘targeted’

Wests Tigers star Terrell May has vehemently denied allegations he was caught vaping in the club’s gym facilities.

Breaking his silence on Wednesday, May expressed his frustration over feeling unfairly scrutinised by the media.

“I feel always targeted. Everyone might say, ‘Oh, stop feeling sorry for yourself’, but it’s the truth,” he told reporters.

“Fake stuff … I didn’t vape. But like I said, everyone has their own opinions and until you really get to know me, that’s when (you can) judge me.

“But people that don’t know me assume lots of stuff that might be true or may not be true.”

May noted that he initially considered addressing the allegations on his personal podcast, MayDay, that he shares with his brother Taylan.

But he ultimately decided against giving the media more ammunition.

“To be honest, with the vape stuff, I did wanna come out and say something on my podcast,” May said.

“But (it) puts fuel to the fire, to be honest, and I didn’t really wanna give the media or the journos that were saying that I was doing all that stuff, I didn’t really wanna fuel the fire and respond to them.

“Because at the end of the day, what’s the point, man? Like … they don’t really know who I am.”

May said he was unfazed by the headlines thanks to a year-long social media hiatus.

But he conceded there was an emotional toll, and that the false headlines were worrying his parents.

“I just felt like there’s not really anything I can put out there without getting in trouble or speaking my mind, or telling you guys lies,” the 27-year-old said.

“It’s not really hard because I don’t see (the news). I’ve got no social media. I’ve been off socials for nearly a year now. But it’s a bit hard for my family, you know?

“I couldn’t care less what anyone says about me. It’s more what my parents see and how they (start) asking me all these questions like, ‘When did you start doing this? When did you start doing that?’

“They’ve been through quite a bit with all of us brothers, our whole NRL journeys ... Just trying to explain to them it’s not true, it’s pretty hard on them.

“Not for me. I couldn’t care less, man.”

May will play his 100th NRL game when the Tigers face the Penrith Panthers at CommBank Stadium on Sunday.
