Penrith co-captain Nathan Cleary escaped punishment from the NRL match review committee after he was placed on report for a dangerous tackle on Broncos playmaker Ezra Mam.

The incident occurred just after the 25th minute, when Brisbane went ahead through Kotoni Staggs to lead 8-6 in the first half.

Nathan Cleary was cited for this tackle.

“I think it went above the horizontal, not much in it though,” Cam Smith said on Nine.

The match review committee agreed with Smith in its findings released on Friday.

Even though the referee ruled the tackle was dangerous enough to be placed on report, Cleary was not named in the report.

Teammate Freddy Lussick was charged with a grade one dangerous tackle on Broncos prop Payne Haas in the 46th minute.

He was hit with a financial penalty, while the Broncos’ Ben Talty was also fined for a careless high tackle.

The 14-12 victory ended a run of eight straight defeats for the Broncos, the second-longest losing streak in the club’s history.
