Jack Bostock made a stunning return to the NRL after a 10-month absence from ACL surgery on Friday night, and he did it with a heavy heart.

The speedy centre-cum-winger stunned Melbourne with a two-try haul in his comeback game, and led the Dolphins to a much-needed victory.

But Bostock had a traumatic lead-up to the game, with his uncle Aaron in hospital in his home town of Wollongong battling cancer.

After the game, Bostock dedicated his return to his uncle's brave fight with the dreaded disease.

"Jack and Aaron are really close so it's been tough for the whole family," a source close to Bostock told Wide World of Sports.

"Jack has had his own battles but it's nothing compared to Aaron, the brother of his dad Josh.

"To be able to play so well knowing Aaron was watching on TV would have pleased Jack more than anything.

"They are a great family and are extremely close."

The Dolphins' 28-10 win at Suncorp Stadium ended a worrying four-game losing run for the Redcliffe team and keeps their finals hopes alive.

But it dug an even deeper hole for the troubled Storm, who tumbled to a record seventh-straight loss and look a shadow of the team of recent years.
