Infinity pool, tennis court, massage room: Inside the 'resort-style' accommodation for PNG Chiefs

Players looking to make the leap and sign with the PNG Chiefs for their inaugural 2028 NRL season have been given an early glimpse into what life could look like.
The ARL Commission confirmed on Tuesday morning that a partnership had been struck with the Airways Resort in Port Moresby, which will see players, staff and families housed in fully-furnished new units that will be specifically built for the NRL's expansion franchise.
Peter V'landys said the agreement was a major boost for the league's 19th team.

"This partnership will see PNG Chiefs players and staff housed in brand new, family-friendly accommodation," the ARLC chairman said in a statement.
"The facility will not only deliver the team a world-class high-performance environment, but also a community feel which will be unique to professional rugby league.
"The accommodation will not just be safe and secure, it will deliver a resort-style standard of living with first-class amenities and lifestyle facilities.

"This is another important step towards ensuring that the Chiefs are successful on and off the field.
"The Chiefs will offer hope and opportunity for the country and the region, and it will start with delivering a world-class community environment."

The 67 units, which will be ready by November 2027 when pre-season training begins, will be built for the Chiefs squad and staff, with access also granted to the Loloata Island Resort.
All those involved with the expansion franchise will be able to use the gym, infinity pool, tennis court, bars, cafes, medical services and a barber.

The resort is rated 4.5 stars on Google Reviews and is described as having "stunning views" and "first-class" service for guests who travel to the hotel.
However, some reviews do reveal some less positive details about the precinct, including noise complaints due to the nearby airport and disappointment with some food options.
"Breaking ground on the player village is a proud moment for our club," PNG Chiefs boss Lorna McPherson said in a statement.
