'First I've heard of it': Roosters coach Trent Robinson reacts to alleged Spencer Leniu incident

Roosters prop Spencer Leniu has reportedly been involved in yet another sideline skirmish, this time involving a journalist after the side's Anzac Day win.

Leniu got into a verbal altercation with league great Johnathan Thurston a fortnight ago and has now allegedly exchanged words with reporter Brent Read on Friday afternoon.

At this stage, the exact nature of the situation is unclear, although it has been reported that Leniu used some vulgar language towards Read.

Speaking to 2GB's Continuous Call Team on Saturday afternoon, head coach Trent Robinson was quizzed about the incident and claimed he wasn't aware of it.

"To be honest, it's the first I've heard of it," he said.

"I can't really comment on that, I didn't know about that. I've got to look at more details."

Leniu went unpunished after the Thurston altercation despite some calling for a fine or even suspension, while the latest incident has gone largely under the radar.

When pressed about whether a conversation between the club and Leniu needed to take place, Robinson vowed to "support the player" wherever possible.

"It's a bit of a mix at the moment - opinions are pretty high in our game and it's what has created interest," the three-time premiership winner said.

"Therefore, there's gonna be differences of opinion. When people have a go at people on either side … it's public but then Spencer has to do it in private? That's interesting, I don't have the answer completely. I don't think anybody has nailed that debate.

"I know we definitely don't want conflict constantly, but conflict creates interest from a media perspective as well. I'm always gonna support the player, but also the game."

Leniu spent a lengthy period on the sidelines last year due to suspension after he racially abused Broncos star Ezra Mam in the 2024 season opener in Las Vegas.

That incident led to strong criticism from the likes of Thurston, which the 24-year-old didn't take too kindly to if recent events are anything to go by.

Leniu started at prop for the Tricolours in their massive 48-16 win over the Dragons.
