'We're pushing standards here': Michael Maguire explains decision to axe Selwyn Cobbo
Broncos coach Michael Maguire has admitted the dropping of Selwyn Cobbo is around standards after Josiah Karapani replaced him.
Cobbo was originally named on the wing but won't play against the Titans. News of Cobbo's axing broke on his 23rd birthday.
Maguire explained his decision on Friday, and said there's areas of Cobbo's game that need to improve.

"As a group and as a leadership group and as a coach, we're pushing standards here and expectations in how we're doing things," he said.
"Karapani's got his opportunity and Selly's (Cobbo) got to look at a few things in his game and we'll go from there."

Maguire added there's "definitely" an avenue for Cobbo to return.
"I talk to Selly a lot. There's obviously things that every player goes through at times and this is no different," he said.
"Selly's in the background doing his work to make sure he gets himself right."
The decision to axe Cobbo comes with him off-contract at the end of the year.

The outside back doesn't appear to be close to signing a deal with any club and the axing will only hurt his market value.

Maguire isn't worried about the potential for his dumping to result in him leaving the club.
"I don't look at it from that point of view," he said.
"I'm here to coach the team. We're creating standards and the team themselves, from the day when I walked in to where they are now, are still pushing those, which is exciting as a coach.
"As a player and as staff we're still meeting those. The more you meet those standards, the more opportunities you have."
