Sam Walker binned for 'very dangerous' tackle during NRL return

Roosters halfback Sam Walker has escaped sanction for a dangerous tackle on Dragons prop David Klemmer in the Tricolours' win.

Walker was returning to the NRL for the first time since his ACL injury last year and subsequent thumb problem in the NSW Cup.

In the 25th minute, Klemmer was tackled high by two Roosters defenders with Walker coming in low.

"That's very dangerous," Steve Roach said on Fox League.

The prop was caught awkwardly with Walker underneath him. Klemmer looked in agony as he was falling to the ground.

"He knew straight away there, Sam Walker," Kevin Walters said.

Referee Grant Atkins then sent the halfback to the sin bin. He was not on the match review committee's charge sheet when it was released on Sunday morning.

It was a first half full of tries for both sides with neither team able to hold a lead.

When Walker went off the field it was 18-12 in favour of the Dragons.

However, despite being down a man, the Roosters scored through Origin star Robert Toia to even up proceedings. Walker returned to the field and kicked a field goal right on half time to give his side the lead.

After the break, Billy Smith extended the lead but in the 65th minute, the Dragons were back in the hunt when Jaydn Su'A scored from a pinpoint Kyle Flanagan pass.

Victor Radley sealed the win though late in the game to make the final score 31-24.
