'We put it in': Reece Walsh sets record straight about bizarre toilet stunt after starring performance

Reece Walsh has set the record straight over his bizarre toilet stunt that left the league in shock and has warned children not to replicate his off-field actions.

A strange week of headlines did not distract Walsh from getting the job done on Thursday as he dazzled in a 30-14 win over the Melbourne Storm to secure a spot in the top four for the Brisbane Broncos.

Two tries, a try assist and a remarkable 40/20 kick was only the beginning of his impressive efforts, yet many were still concerned by Walsh's earlier off-field choices.

A video surfaced online on Monday of Walsh drinking water from a toilet.

Walsh filmed himself drinking the toilet water, and posted it on his Snapchat account.

"They reckon there's a new form of recovery to recover the muscles," Walsh says in the video.

"Toilet water ... Give it a little drink," the 23-year-old adds, while cupping his hand, scooping some water and drinking it.

That prompted a statement from the Broncos condemning the stunt as "a poor attempt at humour", and adding that Walsh quenched his thirst in a home he's renovating.

The club also pointed out that no business had been done in the toilet, noting it remained "unused".

As the video gained more views, Walsh changed his profile picture on Instagram to an image of himself dressed as a plumber.

He then mocked his bizarre stunt during a try celebration on Thursday.

After his starring role against the Storm, Walsh confirmed in his post-match interview with Nine that the toilet had never been used.

"We installed the toilet, alright," he said.

"So everybody out there saying all these people use it - we put it in.

"I don't want young ones doing that sort of stuff. Geez, it got blown out (of proportion) a little bit, don't you reckon?"

Coach Michael Maguire also joked about the off-field act before praising Walsh's ability to move past the noise and help his team push to victory.

"He did ok, I don't think you'll have to worry about toilets," Maguire laughed.

"He's a character, obviously creates a lot noise but at the end of the day, he's in here training, working hard with the players and he wants to win.

"He was challenged earlier in the year about how he was playing and what he was doing. So he wears a fair bit along the way as well. But to see him work with the players the way they are it's good to see."

Reacting to the video on 2GB's Wide World of Sports on Tuesday night, presenter Adam Hawse said he was "lost for words".

"It's been described as bizarre — that's being kind, I think," Hawse said.

"We laugh at it, but I certainly hope kids didn't watch that and take that advice."

League legend Brad Fittler was co-hosting the show with Hawse.

"He's taking the piss, isn't he?" Fittler said.

"Seriously."

Hawse had a message for Broncos bosses.

"If we're giving out advice, Broncos, I'll give you some advice: get Reece off social media," he said.

"It's that simple."

In May, Walsh pulled a questionable prank of a different kind when he pulled on a boxing glove and punched a mate of his in the head.

That prank was also filmed, and was also posted by Walsh on social media.
