EXCLUSIVE: Phil Gould reveals why Wests Tigers' teen prodigy is on track for premiership glory

A sensational rookie season with the Wests Tigers has led league great Phil Gould to believe Lachlan Galvin is on track for premiership glory.

The 19-year-old was a standout performer for the Tigers in 2024, having 16 try assists, 36 offloads and crossing the line himself four times in 21 appearances.

Contracted until the end of 2026, Galvin will take on a new challenge this season as he begins his partnership with four-time premiership winner Jarome Luai in the halves.

The pair's partnership is one that has been highly anticipated by both fans and league pundits.

With many eager to witness how his second year in the competition will unfold, many have already stated that Galvin is on track to becoming a star of the game.

And the young gun's success on the field will result in multiple premierships, according to Gould.

"I'm excited to watch Lachlan Galvin," he said on Wide World of Sports' Six Tackles with Gus.

"I'm obsessed with him. I love watching him play... I'm excited to see how he goes with Jarome Luai at the West Tigers.

"I think in the future, whoever has Lachlan Galvin in their side will be winning premierships.

"I'm not even worried about putting wraps on the kid because he is probably the most exciting young playmaker I've seen coming through in a long time."

Despite his success in 2024, a three-match suspension for a hip-drop tackle ruled him out of contention to win the Dally M Rookie of the Year honour.

But Galvin capped off his debut season in style as he was selected to represent Australia in the Prime Minister's XIII.

He will return to action in round one f the NRL season when the Wests Tigers face Newcastle Knights next Friday.
