Parramatta Eels sink as costly sin bins consolidates Sydney Roosters finals position

Parramatta Eels felt the ramifications of costly marching orders as the Roosters surged to a 24-point victory as the race to the finals intensifies.

Following multiple uncharacteristic errors due to wet conditions, the Roosters found themselves in strong form as they united to capitalise on the dismissal of Brendan Hands and Wiremu Greig.

The Eels were reduced to 12 men when Greig carelessly knocked out Connor Watson with a swinging arm to the head in bid to restrict the utility's movement.

Already held up by two players, Brandon Smith delivered some stern words to Greig as Watson unsteadily attempted to return to his feet.

"Brandon Smith didn't like something in the tackle," Billy Slater said.

"He's come in with a lot of force. He might find himself in a little bit of trouble here."

Referee Grant Atkins wasted no time binning Greig, while Watson underwent and failed a HIA. Sandon Smith was later activated as his replacement.

"That's just made things a whole lot harder for his team," Slater said of Greig.

Sam Walker made the most of the one man advantage and orchestrated play for Dominic Young to record a try in what was his 16th four-pointer of the season.

Back-to-back tries followed through Daniel Tupou and James Tedesco, who powered through a hole on the halfway line to score.

With the impact of the earlier torrential conditions beginning to clear, Hands was sent for 10 minutes in the bin during the second half for a professional foul after the Eels gave away several penalties just metres out from their line.

"It's like groundhog day," Brad Fittler said on Nine as Young scored again.

Young went over twice more to extend the Roosters lead before the home side was struck with their own marching orders via Naufahu Whyte in the 65th minute.

In bid to narrow the margin in Whyte's absence, Clint Gutherson rallied his men and produced a strong set that sent Sean Russell diving over for four points.

In a concerning sight for Roosters fans, Young was taken to the bench under precautionary measures for a lingering hamstring issue.

On the stroke of full time Joey Lussick darted over the line to seal the scores at 38-14.

"A good one for the Roosters. They were too classy," caller Mat Thompson said.
