Roosters young gun Sam Walker shuns rival clubs to sign new deal

Sam Walker is now tied to the Sydney Roosters until the end of 2027 after inking a two-year contract extension.

The 22-year-old halfback, who will miss a large chunk of next season due to an ACL tear, became available to rival clubs on November 1, but is now locked in with the Roosters for another two years, the club confirmed on Monday.

"I'm really happy to be extending with the Roosters," Walker said.

"This club feels like home and I'm grateful for the support of 'Robbo', my teammates and all the staff.

"I'm looking forward to getting back to training later this month so I can keep working hard on my rehab and play my role for the team."

Walker had been linked with a move back to the Broncos, but the dollar signs and the allure of Sydney's eastern suburbs were too good to refuse.

News Corp reports the two-year extension is worth $2.1 million.

Along with his knee injury, Walker also underwent shoulder surgery following the end of the Roosters' season.

"They are both coming along nicely," he told 9News late last month.

"The knee is about seven weeks and the shoulder is maybe a month post-surgery.

"The shoulder honestly feels pretty good, just the knee I'm watching all the muscle slowly deteriorate away.

"I've had a couple of weeks of off-season now and I'm looking forward to getting into my rehab and getting ready for the back end of next year." 

Many are expecting the Chooks to slide down the ladder next season with Walker on the sideline and a host of star players leaving, but the No.7 is confident his teammates can rise to the occasion.

"The development of a lot of the younger boys who are coming through … I'm really excited to see how they progress," Walker said.

"You look at the forward pack we have still got sitting there, they're all internationals and they will all come on next year in leaps and bounds.

"I'm really excited to see the boys attack the first half of the year and I know I will be itching once that season starts to get back out there."
