Unsigned halfback Ronald Volkman could earn an NRL lifeline in 2025 after a disastrous ordeal at the Dragons this year.

According to reports from The Sydney Morning Herald, the 22-year-old is in talks with the Parramatta Eels to add depth to the club's playmaking stocks.

Volkman signed with St George Illawarra at the end of last year but due to a pre-existing should injury from his time at the Warriors, had his contract terminated without playing a game in the red and white.

The club eventually settled with Volkman and were sanctioned by the NRL due to the situation which left the young gun stranded.

While it's unlikely Volkman would start at the Eels given the pairing of Dylan Brown and Mitchell Moses, but it would be an astute signing for new coach Jason Ryles.

The reports comes as skipper Clint Gutherson eyes off a potential move away from the blue and gold after being told he would not receive an extension for 2026.

Gutherson has been linked with a move to the Dragons should he be granted a release.

Ryles has already started making major waves at Parramatta since signing for next year, landing versatile Sharks forward Jack Williams on a three-year deal, while Kangaroos winger Zac Lomax will also join the club to play in the centres.
