'Such a relief': 2023 Everest winner Think About It retired after scary fall at Randwick

Champion sprinter Think About It has been retired following a scary fall at Randwick.

Last year's winner of the $20 million Everest was involved in a frightening moment on Saturday after struggling at the back of the pack in Race 6 and collapsing.

Jockey Jason Collett was flung from the horse but avoided injury.

Reports emerged that the horse suffered a bleeding attack, but thankfully was able to walk off the track and back into the stables.

The six-year-old has now been retired, with trainer Joseph Pride confirming the news.

"I have seen horses come down like that before, and they don't get back up, unfortunately," he told The Sydney Morning Herald.

"I walked down the straight. It was about 400 metres up – just a slow painful walk, by myself. I was fearing the worst. But then I saw his head pop up above the screen. It was amazing. I just thought 'Aahh, what a relief'.

"I still didn't know what was wrong with him but just the fact he was up on his feet was such a relief. The difference between him not leaving Randwick racecourse, and him retiring a happy and sound horse, well, it was just a big relief."

"I couldn't possibly risk him again. It was a big bleed, so it was an easy decision.

"He is bright and happy. I was quite surprised. I walked into the stable this morning, and he has his head hanging out the door. He looked like he does any other day."

The winner of the race was Bjorn Baker's Overpass.
