'Will remain private': Benji Marshall denies 'false' John Bateman claims as Tigers future remains unclear
Benji Marshall has hit back at reports of a falling out with John Bateman, but admits he is "unsure" whether the back-rower will return to the Wests Tigers.
In a bizarre move from the club earlier this year, Bateman was allowed to move back to the Super League for a temporary stint with Warrington before returning in 2025.
The 31-year-old remains contracted at Concord, but has yet to return for pre-season training as speculation mounts regarding his future in the NRL.

However, according to Marshall, there is no personal issue between coach and player, leaving the door ajar for Bateman to remain with the joint venture.

"I'm actually unsure, to be honest," he said.
"What I will say though is what's been reported about is false, I haven't had a falling out with John. I've had honest discussions and in-house discussions around John's future.
"The things that have been reported are not true."
With a host of fresh faces joining the Tigers for next season, headlined by Jarome Luai and Terrell May, there has been talks of Bateman being moved on to free up cap space.
But chief executive Shane Richardson is adamant the club will not force Bateman out.
"John's got a contract for next year," he said.

"We honour every contract at the club, so if John wants to be here for the next two years, then he'll be here. That's a decision between him and his manager.
"We've got plans for what we want to do in the future and we want every player who wants to be a part of that. It's as simple as that.
"That's up to John Bateman. I can't answer for John Bateman. I'd like to, but I can't.
"John knows that he's got a contract in place, his manager's made it clear he's got a contract in place. We knew when he went to England he had a contract in place.
"We'll deal with that - but we'll deal with John Bateman on that, not you guys [media]."
Bateman's stint at the Wolves ended in heartbreak as they were knocked out a game short of the grand final under coach Sam Burgess.
