'Sets the standard': James Tedesco extends stay with Roosters after 'phenomenal' 2024 season

James Tedesco has re-signed with the Sydney Roosters for a further season.

The champion fullback enjoyed an incredible 2024 campaign, finishing one point off Dally M Medal winner Jahrome Hughes as he led his side to a prelim final berth.

Tedesco was axed as NSW Blues skipper and fullback, but it only spurred him on to lift the Tricolours deep into the finals.

The 31-year-old was set to come off-contract at the end of next year, but has opted to extend his successful tenure at Bondi until at least the end of 2026.

"The Roosters have been my home for the past seven years, and I'm excited to continue playing for this incredible club," Tedesco said.

"I'm proud to represent the Roosters and there's a strong bond among the group we have here. I'm looking forward to what we can achieve together in 2025 and beyond."

After an injury-riddled stint at the Wests Tigers, Tedesco moved to the Roosters in 2018 and has since cemented himself as one of the game's all-time greats.

Tedesco was part of premiership-winning sides in 2018 and 2019, while also pushing himself into the representative arena with NSW and Australia.

Head coach Trent Robinson paid tribute to the captain on Friday.

"James is not only a phenomenal player but also a leader who sets the standard for professionalism and performance," he said.

"I'm really pleased that his experience will continue to benefit the team around him."
