'Will improve the game': Intense uproar over Bunker prompts end of season review

Concerns around the inconsistency of the Bunker will be reviewed by the NRL at the conclusion of the season, ARL Commission boss Peter V'landys confirmed.

Mass uproar around the reliability of the NRL's system was sparked in round 24 when the Sharks and the Knights were controversially denied field goals due to blockers.

The following week, three similar incidents were all ruled on differently by the Bunker, with players given marching orders for high shots in some cases and in others allowed to continue on.

With five teams vying to clinch the final spots in the eight, players can ill afford to have calls going against them.

Consequently, V'landys revealed the operations of the Bunker will be reviewed with all officials set to combine to ensure greater consistency in 2025.

"We always conduct a consultation with all stakeholders of the game after the grand final," V'landys said on SEN's Sportsday.

"Rather than doing it with individuals, we will do it as a big group session where everybody is in the room.

"We already have a few ideas about the bunker and how we can improve it alongside the refereeing.

"We will certainly take it to the clubs, players and coaches as Wayne Bennett has been very vocal about it.

"No one has a monopoly on ideas so if we can get ideas and points of contest from other people, we will certainly look at them and implement them if they will improve the game."
